Love.

"Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind."-Shakespeare

Today is October 20th, 2010. The color purple can be seen everywhere, from a simple t-shirt, to a reference to the color  in a Facebook status. Many people are supporting gay/lesbian/bi/trans rights today, in memory and honor of the 6 boys who committed suicide in recent months. The color purple is widely known in the gay community as Spirit represented in the LBGTQ flag.

Its 2010. By now I would've thought that being gay wouldn't be such an issue in our society. But people are being harrassed every day for their sexual identity, to the point that they take their own lives to end such misery.

People do not choose to be gay or straight. I have a gay guy friend named Chris*. Chris once told me that he sometimes wishes he wasn't gay. He was watching a movie one day that featured a couple in love, and we was upset and frustrated because he couldn't have what the movie was depicting. Yes, he could have a loving relationship with another man, but would it be as accepted as a relationship with a woman? No. He could never marry the man he wanted to. Chris never chose to be gay.

Being gay isn't a condition either. Its not something to be cured. You will not go to hell if you are gay. You will not be punished for your "sin" if you're gay...being gay isn't a sin.

So in honor of my gay friends, and the rest of the gay community, I wear purple today, in hope for a better future, where everyone can be accepted equally.

I love all of you very much.
