Things I find on Stumble: I.D. or Architecture

All sizes | Ministers Treehouse, Crossville, TN | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

hmmm.

Yesterday my aunt read in a health magazine that women who have two alcoholic drinks a day lose weight faster. OR women who drink one Green Drink (a healthy, yet disgusting drink) lose weight faster.
(AND EXERCISE)
So here is the advice:
Drink 2 alcoholic drinks a day
OR
Drink one Green Drink a day

Well most people would take the alcoholic drink.
But, I would like to point out some things...some flaws, to drinking the 2 alcoholic drinks.

1. How would you be motivated to work out after the 2 drinks. Most people drink in the evening and at night, so the alcohol would just sit in your stomach. If you're not supposed to consume calories before bed...then why choose the drinking one.
2. Alcohol is a depressant. BUT with the green drink and exercise... Exercise gives you endorphins endorphins make you happy.

Heres the deal ladies, exercise and eat well throughout your life and then you wont have to worry about the alcoholic drinks or the green ones.

Opinions?

disco.

Love.

I feel like I am truly blessed. I have the greatest guy ever. I'm sure everyone has heard this from so many girls or in movies, and I know this may sound silly, but I know Ive found him. I wouldn't believe me if I were you either.
I am in love.
And I need to put it somewhere... So here I am.
I cant believe what love I have come across. For so long I dated guys who treated me unfairly. And non of that seems to matter any more.
I feel like it takes a huge amount of courage to close your eyes and trust with everything you have inside of you. I couldn't have trusted anyone before Sterling. And for some reason, I am able to trust him throughout everything.
I have never felt a love like this. I am treated the way every girl should feel, and I know now that this is the way I should've been treated all along.
I am so  happy to be involved and have such a caring man who wants to take care of me and love me with all of his heart. I want to give him all of my heart.
He makes my heart beat faster. He makes me smile more each day.
When I think about it, I want to cry. But not a sad cry. An excited, overjoyed, happy cry.
I love doing simple things with him, such as eating or walking to the book store. He makes me laugh more than ever.
I love that he holds my hand at the table when we eat. I love that when we are in a crowded room I can see him smiling at me from across the room. I love that he looks at me so lovingly, even though I tell him to stop. I love that he wants to spend the rest of his life with me. I love the beautiful texts that I receive during the days I hardly see him. I love that he loves me for me, he never wants to change me, and he puts up with me when I get a little crazy.
I know we can make it through everything and anything.
I love him.
Its simple. I know it.
I am completely, totally, utterly in love with Sterling.

I cried the 1st time i saw this....

Sexual Politics of Meat/Feminism

Last night, December 2nd I went to Carol Adams presentation in Kedzie Auditorium. Adams wrote the book, The Sexual Politics of Meat. This presentation took over a year to cordinate, so it was amazing to finally see her, Adams is a feminist and vegetarian.
I am a feminist, but in NO WAY a vegetarian. So i was a little scarred to see what the two put together would be like.
Carol Adams was a complete tom-boy when she was younger, but eventually got those pon pons and stood on the sidelines...thats it though. SIDE LINE. girls cheering boys on. it wasnt boys cheering the girls on. It never has been. And so began her feminist outlook.
During the presentation Carol brought up different advertisements to prove her point.
EAT LIKE A MAN. MAN EATS MEAT.
And women are supposed to SERVE the meat to HER man.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZWCdW_WaqU
This video is SO sexist. But the main point is that they take one of the greatest women impowering songs ever and turn it into a mans song. they push not a "mans vehicle" over, but a womens (mini van). He doesnt want to eat "chick" food. Because...that would make him weak. This video is connecting men to meat. men being superior.

David Lynch entered this in a cow parade. Every cow that went down new york in the parade was happy or cute. David Lynch to show everyone what were actually doing to cows. When this entered the street children started crying.

Okay, below is a picture of Latoya Jackson. This is one photo from the Playboy shoot. The photo shoot had her posing with snakes and in bamboo (exotic:racist?).
The real racist part was that the articles name was: Free At Last...
Bc she wasnt really free (m.l. king) until she was sexually exposing herself. right?!?!?  HORRIBLE.

Here is another commercial. Honestly. This is bad.
Advertised pigs are ALMOST ALWAYS white trash looking pigs, with their booty showing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XiZk74GkgM

Those are a few examples that she showed us.
She had 9 feminist-vegan points. When i first read these I didnt understand and thought some were crazy...but she explained them and now I get it.
1. meat-eating is associated with virility, masculinity. meat eating societies gain male identification by their choice of food.
2. animals are the absent refernts in the consumption of meat. the function of the absent referent is to allow for the moral abandonment of a being.
3. a process of objectificatio/fragmentation/consumtion conncts women and animals in a patriarchal culture. the cisual joke that substitures on fragmentated object for another can be found throughout our culture.
4. as an ecofeminist theory, it recognizes the environmetal costs of animalizing protein. all protein is from plants; animalized protein requires that a living animal process the protein and then be killed. Meat production contributes to water pollution, climate change, habit fragmentation and desertification of arable land.
5. Female animals are the absent referents in meat eating and in the consumption of dairy/eggs. there would be no meat eating if female animals weren't constantly made pregnant. female animals are forced to produce feminized protein.
6. women are animalized/animals are sexualized and feminized.
7. anthropornography naturalizes sexual trafficking in and use of women.
8. Carnophallogocentrism and the construction of the (male-identified) subject. A term coined by French theorist Derrida in an attempt to name the primary social, linguistic and material practices that go into becoming a subject within the west; Derrida was showing how explicit carnivorism lies at the heart of classical notions of subjectivity, especially male subjectivity.
9. resistance through a feminist ethics of care. feminist ethics of care is a political ethic: it understands that ideology influences how we choose whom to care about. it also helps us recognize how images/representations are working.

These were the 9 points touched on, in the program. She explained each of them, so that we all better understood them.

Here are a few pictures from the event!
Notice the picture on the screen, as well as Adams on the right behind the podium!

MOVIE TIME!!!!

Hello!
While I didnt see the new Harry Potter movie, like most of the world, I found something amazing at MSU.
All over campus there are different halls that rent movies to students for free. All I needed to do was register online, go to a location and get the movie!
I go to Akers movie "store" because I live in East Complex, and it's the closest to me. These movies are amazing. There pretty new movies, within the last 5-10 years (which lets be serious....is new).
The movies Ive rented just in the last week are:
Monsters Inc.
Sex and the City the movie
Transformers
Day after Tomorrow
Blade
Nanny Diaries

The movies are due back 2 days after they are rented.
The video store is only open 5pm-10ISH!!!! So sometimes the hours arent convenient for returning..but hey! most ppl want to watch movies at night, so when you wanna watch a movie, its perfect!

LOVE my new find!

and hey....being able to watch a plethora of movies while recovering from my cold has been amazing!

Sickly Sick

Being sick on campus...officially sucks. Being sick anywhere sucks really.
It all started Sunday night. Started getting the sniffles..come 12pm on Monday I was feeling sooo sick. Went to class anyways, only to come home 5 hours later and crash!! I slept on and off from 6pm-10am this morning...missed my 8am class this morning! When youre sick on campus its horrible to get ready and drag yourself to a cafeteria or to class. For me, a cafeteria isnt available at all hours. I have to usually go out of my dorm and walk to another dorm that has a caf. That is extremely inconvenient, especially when you can hardly get out of bed. Most of my classes are pretty cool, because they are studios, so I can leave to get a drink or blow my nose whenever, but I know I would hate it if I was stuck inside lectures all day.
Going to bed early tonight as well! Hopefully I will be much better in a few days!

Day at State

Last Wednesday, November 10th, The Day at State Appreciation Party was help in the bowling alley at the Union. There we received our Day at State Host shift, bowled, and had refreshments. We were able to meet other Hosts, and see what their major is (because the major is a huge factor in who hosts who!). I have only hosted one prospective student...who wasn't really looking to go to MSU anyways. Bummer. Apparently, the Day at State Program gets extremely busy in the Spring, because thats when most students are picking which college they'd like to go to next fall. I'm looking forward to hosting another student soon...and hopefully this one will be more excited about coming to MSU.

Here are a few dark photos from the bowling party!

Getting our bowl on!
